Interview with Adriel Arabia: Reflecting on Musical Influences and Inspirations

How did you start in the music business?

So what made me want to get into the music business is my dad. He was a very musical person, God rest his soul, And honestly I saw Janet Jackson and I was like “wow this is hot” you know… “I wanna do this.” So then also I loved Prince and Michael Jackson, and they inspired me as well to want to get in the music business. I also happen to be Prince’s oldest brothers’ sister-in-law, lol. I know that’s a lot. So, Prince’s oldest brother is my brother-in-law, and he also inspired me to keep going.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I would describe the music that I create as multi-genre, as I am a multi-genre artist. So I do R&B, hip-hop, jazz, rock, I mean, Neo Soul… I love it all. I mostly mainly do hip-hop, but I do all genres that I just named, and more.

What is the current project about?

My current project is about being yourself, self correcting, evolving, spirituality, fun, it’s pretty much about everything. I do have like 300 songs recorded and so I’m going in, and I’m revamping some of those
recordings, but I’m also recording new material, and so I am just excited, and I am in my element.

How do you feel it will inspire others?

I feel that my project will inspire others to you know, think outside the box, be themselves, and explore, explore life.

What is your creative process like?

My creative process is very very very intimate. So I am a multi-genre artist, as well as a multimedia producer or a multimedia specialist. So I actually like to be in my own studio sessions, and I have my computer hooked up, I have my microphone hooked up, my converter box hooked up… and I just create. That is my creative process.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would love, love love to collaborate with Doja Cat, Kendrick Lamar, and a few others, but mainly Doja Cat, and Kendrick Lamar they are very very talented people.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

If I could go open a show for any artist, oh my gosh, it would be the two people that are no longer here and that would be Prince, and Michael Jackson… lol, who wouldn’t wanna open for them?

What is one message you would give to your fans?

A message that I would give my supporters is be yourself. And don’t let anybody get you out of who you are, be yourself, and follow a spiritual journey because we are in this physical world, but it’s also important because we are spiritual beings.

The most useless talent that I have would be doing hair because I only like to do my own lol, and so I think that talents should be used to help others and I hate doing hair but you know I gotta keep my hair up so…

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

I’ve performed in Chicago, Ohio, Missouri, um, I mean a lot of places I’ve performed at I mean… we travel a lot when I say we I mean my team, Jackson Entertainment and Henderson Entertainment they are great, by the way, and my favorite venue would probably be outside venues, um they are really really great
their fun, um you know you get to feel the wind and lol see how um, the people react you know, to your um to your performance so I think that that’s really really good and my least favorite venue it… it
would probably be really, really small, very small, um… settings. Those would be my least favorite.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

My upcoming shows… um, I have some shows lined up in South Carolina, Cleveland Ohio, um… a few places, a few places…um, I don’t have my schedule in front of me right now, lol, but I have lots of shows coming up, and actually, I am going to be going on the Coca Cola tour with Nivea, and a few other artists so… that should be exciting.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I feel the internet had definitely impacted the music business in a harmful way, and, in a very beneficial way. Harmful meaning that I think that artists have a very, very hard time selling their actual albums like everything is going on, like downloads and streams right now its not how it was, you know… a while ago, and I think that some people they kinda steal music cause they can download it lol, versus buying it, so that would be like you know… the harmful part of it, but the um… not so bad part of it is that we artists, like myself “independent”, we have our own destiny in our hands and you… I mean, if you have a product, and it’s good, you know… put it out there and see you know what, what can happen. I know the record
labels probably don’t like the fact that we are able to be independent, but that’s just how it goes.

What’s next?

What’s next is the “I Was Born a Virgo” video is coming out very, very soon. We already have the visualizer up, but you know… that’s different than the video, and so we are going to be um, you know… like I said, performing and um… this should be very, very nice, and I’m excited.

What should the world know?

I think that the world should know lol, to go on my social media lol… Adriel Arabia. So it’s
