GROOVE MAG PURE BALLADS OF 2020: ‘Téhilah’ has a big voice that reaches out of the speakers and touches you with it’s beautiful soft tone and melodic emotion on ‘Dried Roses’

Just when you thought you’d grown tired and bored of sweet, soft songs, something like this comes and kicks you right in the feels, compelling you to listen to it on repeat until you eat your words. I’m talking about the latest release from Dominican artist Tehilah.

With a wonderfully musical and emotional voice, Tehilah takes us through the track “Dried Roses”, showcasing a wide array of different emotions along the way, holding our hand every step of the way and restoring faith in humanity (particularly in music).

Dried Roses” feels like a breath of fresh air, but also a warm smile pushing you to rise through the challenges and odd-balls life throws your way. It is very much a song about strength and about survival, or at least that’s the feeling it leaves me with each time I listen to it (and I must admit, I’ve been listening to it more or less continuously for the past couple of days).
Much like a sunrise, Tehilah’s song rises through with light and subtlety, proving once again that you don’t need to shout into the speakers or have a crazy amount of auto-tune to create quality music that speaks to people.

In many ways, “Dried Roses” feels like a quaint and simple piece that encourages you to stand up and dance. Feel the grace wash through you, the same way it does with the artist herself. It feels like an “I can” in an age where the world keeps telling you you can’t. It’s a rousing anthem for an entire generation that risks losing itself through the cracks.

Tehilah is beautiful in her softness and her fragility, her strength so carefully undermined through simple yet powerful acoustic accords that cause her voice to vibrate and echo through the entire room.
It’s difficult to say what “Dried Roses” is about, but as is the case with most quality music, the song has that rare ability of taking on any face you attribute it. Tehilah inspires originality through her music, by encouraging you to find your own meaning in the lyrics.
