“‘DENNII’ drops a glorious and stylish House Pop anthem with the sleek and instantly appealing ‘Back 2 Love” – Groovemag UK
DENNII kicks off his new single “Back 2 Love” with the kind of instant momentum often reserved for hard-hitting records and die-hard house DJs.
“Back 2 Love” is an overwhelming three-minute plus stretch that showcases in brilliant detail all of what DENNII has come to embody: bold experimentation, rhythmic intensity, explosive melody, and artful ferocity.
The Croatian native now based in Switzerland emphasizes bumping grooves and gruff, hypnotic rhythms. The intensity on synths and strings doesn’t exactly come as an EDM surprise, but DENNII also taps into electronic music through heavy-toned vocals, nods to house music grooves, adapts rapidfire percussion, and wraps it all in ecstatic housy synths.
“Back 2 Love” is also filled with drum patterns and reverb-washed pianos to counterbalance the gritty pumping bassline.
It’s a tremendous step forward for DENNII, which is somehow a good thing for an artist who considers ‘Music Like Religion’ and has always been a hard working dreamer, who believes in hard work always pays out. His simple lyrics about young love and summertime flings recall the fun-filled days of school vacation. It’s nice to imagine that love and coming-of-age could be so painless.
It’s looking like DENNII is being properly served by his chosen format. Though part of the appeal of his music is his ability to distill the feeling of a deep groove into a pop-sized package for listeners, some of his rhythms demand more than just a few minutes on the dancefloor.
His stylistic combinations are so distinct and well executed that they effortlessly transcend any recognizable source material. The cooing vocals and build-up/drop patterns grow excitingly epic with each passing minute.
There is also a winning warmth to his music with its careful production. It doesn’t cut to the quick of anything, but there’s a lot of high-energy fun.
Nonetheless, “Back 2 Love” is drizzled with just enough truffle oil to elevate its essential sturdiness without obscuring it.
