Formed in 2014 after the dissolution of Berlin-based vocalist and songwriter Johanna Sadonis’ previous band the Oath (an occult-themed doom/punk/hard rock project with Swedish guitarist Linnéa Olsson), Lucifer continues to explore the German siren’s fascination with the dark side, but with a proto-metal and blues rock twist. Drawing inspiration from classic rock bands like Blue Öyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin, the band, which also includes bass player Dino Gollnick, drummer Andrew Prestidge, and Cathedral guitarist Garry “Gaz” Jennings, inked a deal with Rise Above Records shortly after forming. Their debut long-player, the aptly named Lucifer I, was released the following year and featured the singles “Anubis” and “Morning Star.” ~ James Christopher Monger
